Escape and Escapism
This was the first of our digital escape rooms, created in May while the first lockdown was
still happening. We wanted to acknowledge the emotions of the pandemic threat, with
most people confined to their homes and dependent on developments they could not
control.
We invented a dystopian fantasy on the theme of Humans vs the System which combined live interaction with a trail of clues hidden in fake Instagram, Youtube and Vimeo accounts. Each playing of the game unfolded in a different way depending on the dynamic of the group. Over many runs of the escape room we saw how successfully the players came together to solve the clues and recreate the story. It seemed like a metaphor of hope for the wider challenges of the pandemic. We provided a small moment of escapism in the middle of a very unsettling time.
